The Ohio Arts Council's Riffe Gallery will present Sky High from July 31 through October 19, 2014. Sky High is an all-encompassing visual expedition to Earth's vast upper atmosphere known as the sky. The artists in the exhibition use a range of techniques that explore the assorted elements of the sky. From the stunning displays of stars and planets, to clouds and tornadoes, this exhibition will encourage you to "look up."

Artists in the show include: Rosemarie Bloch (Okeana), Rod Bouc (Columbus), Judith Maureen Brandon (Cleveland), Edward M. Charney (New Carlisle), Robert Coates (Fairborn), Netta Bits (Dayton), Susan Danko (Parma), Julie Friedman (Medina), Diana Duncan Holmes (Cincinnati), David LaPalombara (Athens), Jessica Larva (Columbus), Danielle Rante (Columbus), Kate Shannon (Mansfield), Wendy Collin Sorin (Durham, NC), Diane Stemper (Oxford), Joel Whitaker (Dayton) and Sean Wilkinson (Dayton).

Join the Riffe Gallery for the opening of Sky High on Thursday, July 31, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

On Friday, August 1, from noon to 1:00 p.m., join us for a free tour of the exhibition led by exhibition curator Kay Koeninger, a professor of art at Sinclair Community College.

On Thursday, August 28, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., Ohio poet Wendy McVicker will read her works with accompaniment by musician Emily Prince, followed by an Open Mic session. Please register for the event online between August 1-15.

On Sunday, September 21, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., create mixed media works by melding together science, nature and art with Sky High artist Diane Stemper. Children ages 6 to 17 are welcome to participate with an adult companion. Registration is required as space is limited; all children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Register online between August 1-September 17.

Sky High will be traveling to the Southern Ohio Museum on November 7 through December 20, 2014.

The Ohio Arts Council's Riffe Gallery will present The Urban Landscape: A Tale of Grandeur and Abandonment from November 6, 2014 through January 11, 2015.

The Urban Landscape, curated by Christine Fowler Shearer, explores a variety of artistic perspectives by 16 Ohio artists through original works. The 63 pieces reflect the fundamental nature of city life, focusing primarily on Ohio.

    Enjoy a positive experience exploring negative space in a free family workshop with Athens-based artist Ron Kroutel on Sunday, December 7, 2014, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Ron will lead children ages 6 to 17 and their adult companions in the art of subtractive drawing using photos, memory and objects around us. About the Riffe Gallery

The Ohio Arts Council's Riffe Gallery showcases the work of Ohio’s artists and the collections of the state’s museums and galleries. The Riffe Gallery is located in the Vern Riffe Center for the Government and the Arts, across from the Statehouse on High Street in Downtown Columbus.
