The Ohio Arts Council's Riffe Gallery will feature 59 Ohio artists in The Inaugural Juried Exhibition from November 5, 2015, through January 9, 2016.

Ohio artists (not enrolled in a degree-granting program, age 18 and older) were invited to submit up to three artworks in a statewide call for entries. Nearly 400 applications were submitted in a wide range of media including drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, ceramics, mixed media, and video. Exhibition jurors include Tyler Cann, Columbus Museum of Art, Columbus; Petra Kralickova, formerly of Ohio University, Athens; and Marilyn Simmons, SPACES, Cleveland. Jurors' Statements:

"I was honored by the opportunity to be on the jury for the OAC's Riffe Gallery, and it was a pleasure to become better acquainted with the range of creative work happening in the state of Ohio. With nearly 400 artists submitting up to three different pieces, it was also quite a challenge. But after several rounds of jurying and some frankly tough calls involving both practical and aesthetic considerations, we managed to narrow the field, and highlight some great works. Congratulations to the Riffe Gallery on this ambitious undertaking."
—Tyler Cann, Columbus Museum of Art

"Thank you for the invitation to serve on the jury for the OAC's Riffe Gallery. I have worked previously with Riffe Gallery—from projects to exhibitions to gallery talks—and it has been such a pleasure to continue to collaborate with the esteemed art institution. This time, reviewing some 400 artist submissions, the scope and quality of artists in Ohio was eye opening, and it was wonderful to work with the other jurors as a team. Though we collaborated long distance, our decisions lead to building a strong representation of work being created in Ohio. I am thrilled and humbled to be participating with projects the Riffe Gallery plans, organizes, and makes come to view. Congratulations!"
—Petra Kralickova, formerly of Ohio University, Athens

"It has been my honor to choose artists for this exhibition. The talented artists picked for this exhibition show breadth and depth of what Ohio artists are capable of creating. The artwork submitted was vast, and it was hard to narrow down the field. Artists in the exhibition represent the beauty, the rust, hard work, amazing skill, and complexity that is Ohio. Thank you to the OAC, the Riffe gallery, my fellow jurors: Tyler Cann, and Petra Kralickova, for working on this project with me. Also, thanks to all the the talented artists who came out in full force to represent what Ohio artists can do."
—Marilyn Simmons, SPACES, Cleveland

Writing Real: Create Compelling Characters in Theatre Thursday, December 10, 5:30–8:30 p.m.
In order for a character to come alive on the stage, a character must have a driving need. It is suggested to read Oedipus the King by Sophocles in preparation for the workshop. Register here November 6–December 7.

Family Workshop: Reduce, Reuse, ReCREATE! Saturday, December 12, 2–4 p.m.
Art educator, performer, and Inaugural Juried Exhibition artist Eric Marlow will lead families through a workshop that will transform everyday recyclable materials into sculptures, toys, wearable art, and more. All children must be accompanied by a registered adult. This workshop is geared toward children ages 6–17. Register here November 6–December 7.

Gallery admission and events are free and open to the public.
