Students from 31 high schools from around Ohio will take part in the 2009 Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest. The program seeks to foster the next generation of literary readers and builds on the resurgence of poetry as an oral art form, as seen in the slam poetry movement and the immense popularity of rap music among youth. The event will be held at the Matesich Theatre at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus. Six finalists will compete in the state finals starting at 4 p.m.
State finals for Ohio will begin at 4 p.m. (The Ohio preliminary competition begins at 12:30 p.m.)

Directions/Parking: The Matesich Theatre in Erskine Hall is located on the Ohio Dominican University (ODU) campus. The campus is located just off I-670 in Columbus, Ohio. The address is 1216 Sunbury Road, Columbus, Ohio 43219. The campus is five miles NE of downtown Columbus, near Port Columbus International Airport. Exit I-670 at East 5th Avenue and travel east to Sunbury Road, then go north on Sunbury. ODU is less than a mile from East 5th on the right hand side.
Parking in the visitor lot is located on the west (or left) side of Sunbury as you first arrive on campus. Parking is free. Please be cautious when you cross the street at the cross walk and traffic light. Erskine Hall will be at the end of the walkway that leads you SE (or bear to the right). Enter the front doors and go up the stairs to the second floor. Go through the main doors to the theater entrance. You will be greeted by OAC staff.
